This project was created in 2018 as part of a volunteer assignment, following a visit to Vancouver Island and the ancient forests of Port Renfrew. After connecting with photographer TJ Watt and learning more about the Ancient Forest Alliance, the goal became to create a piece of work that could support their efforts while fulfilling the project requirements.
The Doug Mug was developed as a limited-edition product tied directly to the story of the ancient forests and the well-known “Lonely Doug.”
The illustration was created from an original photograph, translating the subject into a simple and recognizable design that works well on physical merchandise.
